Silicon Flatirons pulls together a network of faculty, leaders in the technology industry, practicing lawyers, and students to exchange ideas about the cutting edge issues at the intersection of law, technology and entrepreneurship. In so doing, we are building a "nerve center" of thought leaders and mentors for students seeking to understand and succeed in our increasingly information-based economy. We are fortunate to draw on a dynamic and talented group of affiliated faculty; an ever expanding and impressive group of fellows; an amazing group of individuals who serve on our advisory boards; a first-class group of companies and firms as supporters; and a valuable set of partnering organizations. Julie Penner
Student
Leeds School of Business
School of Law
University of Colorado

Julie is currently in a second year of a dual JD/MBA program where she is focusing on entrepreneurship, both in the law school and the business school. In her first two years in Boulder, Julie has become deeply involved with the entrepreneurial community on campus and in the Boulder Community. She co-facilitates the Boulder New Technology Meetup held monthly at the Wolf School of Law, and she is a member of the School of Law's Entrepreneurial Advisory Board and the Journal of Telecommunications and High Technology. Within the Leeds School of Business, Julie is a member of the university's 2008 Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) team.

Outside of the university, Julie has participated in two startup weekends, one in Boulder and one in Boston, involving a group of entrepreneurs coming together for a weekend to try and launch a new company. Professionally, Julie has worked as a law clerk with the Denver-based firm Faber Bantz, PC, a very entrepreneurial young firm. This summer, Julie conducted legal research for law professors Phil Weiser and Brad Bernthal on the state of broadband in Colorado for the Governor's Office on Innovation and Technology. Julie comes to Boulder as an experienced entrepreneur, having worked for Axon Labs, a Boston-based startup developing a consumer product technology for the sleep industry. She has remained involved with the company since enrolling in graduate school, including conducting an MBA project in conjunction with Axon.
